How Bi-Polar Ionization Works?
Enhale’s process is bi-polar, meaning we use two emitters to create equal amounts of positive and negative ions. The patented technology uses a precise electronic charge to create an electrical field filled with high concentrations of ions. These ions are injected into the air stream, creating a cold plasma region where the ions break down passing pollutants and gases into harmless compounds like oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapor. When the ions come in contact with viruses, bacteria or mold, they remove the hydrogen molecules from the pathogens. Without hydrogen, the pathogens have no source of energy and will die. The ions also attach to allergens, such as pollen, smoke and other particles, causing them to band together until they are large enough to be caught by filters.
What is an Ion?
An ion is a molecule that is positively or negatively charged, meaning that it has electrons to give or needs electrons to become uncharged, thus becoming stable. Enhale’s technology generates the same ions nature creates with lightning, waterfalls, ocean waves and the like. Nature uses ion energy to break apart molecules, naturally cleaning the air and producing a healthy environment. Enhale’s patented technology produces the same ions that are found naturally in the atmosphere. Around waterfalls, at the beach or high in the mountains, ion levels are normally found to be in the range of 3,000 to 5,000 ions per cubic centimeter (ions/cc). Enhale’s technology recreates those levels of ions within buildings to achieve the same odor and pathogen control mother nature provides.
A building without Enhale will have ions levels less than 100 ions/cc. A building with Enhale’s technology will have ion levels ranging from 800 ions/cc to 3,000 ions/cc depending on where the ion measurement is taken. Our technology is designed to replicate the ion levels in the cleanest of environments by increasing the indoor levels over 2,000 ions per cubic centimeter.

Enhale’s technology produces positive and negative ions through patented needlepoint ion technology powered by state of the art micro-circuitry. Enhale’s technology does NOT produce detectable ozone under any operating velocity or humidity and has been confirmed by UL’s test standard UL 867-2007.
Caution must be exercised when using traditional ion tubes because as the humidity decreases or the velocity decreases in a variable air volume (VAV) system, ozone will be produced at unsafe levels and there will not be enough air to dilute the ozone. Any ion manufacturing company serious about the well being of their clients should provide ozone data from a UL 867-2007 ozone chamber test. Any other testing is irrelevant.
Condensed test results from the CDC showing the products with glass ion tubes produced by Enhale’s competitors could not pass the UL 867-2007 chamber test required during the FEMA trailer testing. Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO) technologies chemically manufacture ions using UV radiation shined onto either Titanium Dioxide (Ti02) or a combination of TiO2 and other metals to create a catalytic reaction.
The ions and ozone PCO technologies create are highly reactive, unstable molecules, referred to as ROS (reactive oxidative species). PCO technologies rely on indoor air chemistry to produce a desired result. If this technology kills bacteria, virus, mold etc. through oxidative reactions, it will also attack human tissues and cells.
Research has shown instead of creating innocent byproducts like CO2 and water (as claimed by the PCO manufacturers), they create an array of undesirable byproducts like formaldehyde and ultra fine particles.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has officially informed the general public and manufacturers of the cancerous risks involved with Ti02. You don’t want a product in your HVAC system, being inhaled by occupants, that can release the TiO2 that has been proven to cause tumors and cancer.

ASHRAE 62 Compliance
ASHRAE 62 is the worldwide standard used to calculate outside air requirements in commercial buildings. Within ASHRAE 62 there are two methods for determining outside air requirements; Ventilation Rate Procedure (VRP) and the Indoor Air Quality Procedure (IAQP).
In an effort to reduce the consulting engineers time, Enhale technology has developed an IAQ spreadsheet based on ASHRAE 62. The spreadsheet calculates both the VRP outside air requirements and the IAQP requirements simultaneously. In minutes, you can see how low you can go with the outside air using the IAQP. This method applies to all commercial, non-healthcare, applications. Over a thousand projects have been designed using Enhale’s IAQ software spreadsheet.
